Building a (Prop! Fake!) Bomb

Builder and former movie SFX artist Dave Fogler has a fun look at creating a prop bomb on a tight deadline for an upcoming film.  He starts with a collection of reference photos approved by the director for the the overall look of the device.  Then it's a matter of grabbing electronic bits and bobs to assemble the final prop.  That includes recreating the look of plastic explosives using a decidedly low-tech approach- coating a cardboard box in clay and giving it a coat of paint.

Bonus:  He actually pays attention to one of the biggest issues with a prop like this.  Once it's done, how to you send it through the mail without having a SWAT team show up at your door?

A Hobbit's Desk

Michael R. Miranda returns to our pages with this wonderful tableaux of a hobbit's desk, filled with a variety of prop documents and items.

As an aside, I've always wanted to run a hobb...er, halfling-only fantasy RPG campaign.  They're well known for being the only race almost totally immune to dark magic and eldritch influences, making them ideal delvers for locations filled with arcane corruption.  It would be a cozy mystery version of Call of Cthulhu, with a touch of Indiana Jones.

Drink Up

I'm normally not a fan of Mythos drinkware, but these Cthulhu-themed cups from Fantasias Artesanales are pretty cool.  The chalice would make a great prop.

You Gotta Have Heart

As the proud father of Auguste Delagrange, I'm always impressed by his notoriety and fame.  Even more so because I wasn't aware he did half the things he's credited with doing.  Heh.

On the bright side, one of the replies lays out the actual origin of the Delagrange myth here on Propnomicon.

Icon of Nyarlathotep

"He is called the creeping chaos, the dark pharaoh, the one who walks among us. Nyarlatotep is always changing - choosing the face that needs right now, from human to monster. He doesn't destroy with force - he destroys the mind, confuses the thoughts, tears the curtain between reality and the nightmare."

Morok Art Studio brings us this icon of Nyarlathotep in his aspect as Nephren-Ka, the Black Pharaoh.

Symbol of the Physarum

"Our goddess is the change under the earth. She is older than the dreams of men. Her's are the secrets of death and the mysteries of life."

‐Saying of the Physarum

Mor Design returns to our pages with the symbol of the Physarum, intelligent fungal beings.

Idol of Ra

The latest pagan idol from Slagovir is this carved wooden depiction of Ra, the ancient Egyptian god of the sun.  I really like how he incorporates the traditional ship of the sun into the design.

Crime in Arkham

I'm shocked, simply shocked, to discover bootleggers are active in the beautiful city of Arkham, Massachusetts.  Abraham Marsh of El Primo de Innsmouth reveals the awful truth with these pictures of his ne'er-do-well cousin smuggling illegal liquor disguised as bottles of maple syrup.

Clay Tablet Props

Avason created these clay tablet props for a Dungeons and Dragons adventure.  The process was pretty straight forward.  They rolled out a sheet of polymer clay, sculpted the raised figures, then used a toothpick to engrave the writing.  The results demonstrate a pretty high effort/reward ratio.

Long Live the King

This nicely done King in Yellow costume comes to us from Bone Forge.  Surprisingly, their name perfectly describes what they do- creating prop bones for LARPs, cosplay, and media projects.  Oh, and they also happen to make the impressive tentacles seen here.  They created the costume for a Mythos LARP by Cultural Chaos

Idol of Nyarlathotep

This excellent idol of Nyarlathotep comes to us from Incheon Deep One.  Or at least that's what appears to be going on.  I stumbled across it on a South Korean crowdfunding site, and the translated version of the page is a bit dodgy.  Despite the language issue the page is filled with shots of this idol, an alternate version, and a Cthulhu idol that was apparently part of an earlier crowdfunding project.  They even have an insanely cool Nyarlathotep death whistle!

Yet another reminder of just how international Mythos fandom really is.

Stakes, Well Done

One of the truest maxims of life is that you need the right tools to do the job. El Marques Larp Shop brings us these foam, LARP-safe vampire hunting stakes.  These would be perfect for a Halloween one-shot.

You Too Must Die

Spooky Jack returns to our pages with one of their excellent Momento Mori skulls.  Just the thing for reminding yourself of your mortality.
