Helm of Eredin

Artist Olyksandr Hyrtsai brings us the Helm of Eredin, leader of the Wild Hunt in the Witcher III video game.  Click through for a full gallery on Reddit.  In the comments you'll find a link to a video documenting the helm's creation, from the lamination of the oak planks through the painstaking process of shaping the final sculpt with power tools.

Skooma Pipe

"The finest skooma, the sweetest moon sugar. At a fair price, of course."

Silverrend Props brings us one of the more obscure items from the Elder Scrolls series- the skooma pipe.  It only appears in Morrowind.  Since that game the lore has redefined skooma as a drink or, particularly for Khajit, a food additive.

The Tools of Kagrenac

This is one of those wonderfully niche, over the top projects I absolutely adore.  Ethereum Props brings us their complete collection of the Tools of Kagrenac from the Elder Scrolls games.  If you're not familiar with the lore, The Unofficial Elder Scrolls wiki has a great rundown of each artifact in the set.  It's absolutely wild stuff.

Kagrenac's Tools are the legendary artifacts crafted by the Dwemer Tonal Architect Lord Kagrenac. Each tool served a specific purpose to siphon the power of the Heart of Lorkhan, via tonal manipulation of the laws of nature.

Wraithguard: The gauntlet Wraithguard was created to safely wield the weapon tools, Sunder and Keening. Wielding the weapons without the gauntlet will often lead to the instant death of the wielder. Wraithguard also functions to empower the abilities of Keening and Sunder. Accounts of its appearance vary, but it typically looks like a gauntlet made of a material comparable to brass.

Keening: The short blade Keening (also referred to as the Ethos Knife) was created to flay and focus the power that the hammer Sunder produced. In song, it is described as a dagger made of the sound of the shadow of the moons.

Sunder: Sunder was created to produce a specific amount of power from the Heart. When struck by Sunder, the Heart would release godlike power. It is described as a hammer of divine mass.

House Telvanni Amulet

"The wizard-lords of House Telvanni have traditionally isolated themselves, pursuing wisdom and mastery in solitude. But certain ambitious wizard-lords, their retainers, and clients have entered wholeheartedly into the competition to control and exploit Vvardenfell's land and resources, building towers and bases all along the eastern coast. According to Telvanni principles, the powerful define the standards of virtue..."

This amulet of House Telvanni from the Elder Scrolls videogame series comes to us from Silverrend Props.

The Gates of Oblivion

Silverrend Props brings us this tableaux of props from the newly remastered The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.  That includes a wanted poster for the infamous Gray Fox, advertisement for the Imperial City's arena, Septim coin, and some very cool reproductions of the Varla and Welkynd stones.

A Light Shining in Darkness

Fallout: New Vegas is the greatest video game of all time thanks, in no small part, to the incredible worldbuilding.  That includes the detailed backstory for Joshua Graham, a one-time monster seeking redemption for his evil deeds.  His character arc is deeply dependent on being Mormon.  That extends to his signature weapon "A Light Shining in Darkness".

"l1b3rtypr1m3" brings us his recreation of the gun, a custom .45 M1911 featuring snakeskin grips and engraved with the biblical passage John 1:5 ("The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it") in Greek.

Fallout: New Vegas Rose of Sharon Cassidy Necklace

Chris of "l1b3rtypr1m3" is a huge fan of the Fallout franchise, in particular Fallout: New Vegas.  Over the years he's amassed what's probably the largest collection of props based on the games, many of them crafted by his own hand.  His latest piece is one of those wonderfully obscure video game items I love- the necklace worn by "Whiskey" Rose of Sharon Cassidy.

Fallout Consumables

Ammnra Creations brings us this tutorial on creating a variety of consumable items from the Fallout video game series.  The best part is right at the start, where he demonstrates how to use drinking party IV bags to recreate RadAway, blood packs, and irradiated blood.  After that he crafts a stimpak, Jet inhaler, and fusion core.  Spoiler alert: that section basically consists of "I 3D printed the parts and put them together".

That's become an increasing common theme in propmaking.  Don't get me wrong, there's certainly nothing wrong with that approach.  The results are absolutely authentic since they're adapted from the actual game models.  That said, I'm a devotee of the ol' skool "bash found parts together" method of prop creation.  3D printing seems to remove the creativity from that process and turn it into an exercise in kit assembly.  Your mileage may vary, obviously.

Fallout NCR Ranger

Larry Hastings of Vulture Productions brings us this excellent NCR Ranger costume from Fallout: New Vegas.  The LAPD riot armor is a kit he just happens to have for sale.

As an aside, I've continued my long history of getting hooked on Bethesda games over the holiday break.  After taking two years (!) to finish Skyrim I dove into Fallout 4 just after Christmas.  While the main story is terrible, it's really hitting my exploration and crafting buttons.

Citizen of Whiterun

Victor Marin brings us a preview of an as yet unannounced project from Dr. Collector.  He contributed some of the physical props for the "Whiterun Honorary Citizenship Chest", based on the iconic city from Skyrim.  In addition to the faux coinage, Mr. Marin crafted the very cool key to the city's player-owned home, Breezehome.  I have a feeling this set is going to be in high demand when it's officially unveiled.

The Eye of Magnus

This is cool.  The rather directly named 3D Cosplay Decor has a prop version of the Eye of Magnus from Skyrim that features internal illumination.

Azura's Star

This recreation of Azura's Star from Skyrim comes to us from Yugiwow.  It's hard to imagine how they were able to cast something this complex, with multiple undercuts, in resin.
