Warhammer 40K Purity Seal
David Kirkby brings us this very nice recreation of a Space Marine Purity Seal from Warhammer 40K. The weathering job on the faux parchment ribbons is outstanding.
Thanks for the mention but I'm afraid theres nothing too special about the scroll weathering.
The base texture is a scan of a manilla folder and some other textures in photoshop with the text and icons on top. The back of the scroll is printed with the texture as well but without the text and icon. It's then printed onto cotton fibre paper.
I cut them to size (I get four per a4 sheet) and then burn the edges VERY CAREFULLY. Once thats cooled. I just rub the paper with soot, fire-grate polish and some of the general filth on my workshop desk to get the dirt built up.
The whole process takes about 10 minutes and is dead easy.
