The Devil's Archer

Emily Holland brings us the natural projectiles fired by the Devil's Archer plant of the planet Ilion.  The hollow thorns are used to pump digestive fluids into the unfortunate victim.

What a great prop and photo. Cryptozoology is always a rich place for props and the story tie-in just improved an already good idea. Pollination by vectors other than bees or moths is a pleasant variant, but the addition of behavior modifying enzymes is brilliant. Illion reminds me a bit of Deathworld and the Deathworld Trilogy by Harry Harrison. Keep up the good work!

Tiny fluke uses vectors to get around and behavior modification to force ants to get eaten https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicrocoelium_dendriticum

Of course for some, it’s a win-win situation http://www.ns.umich.edu/new/releases/21796-mutual-benefits-stressed-out-trees-boost-sugary-rewards-to-ant-defenders
