French artist Gruliette brings us this excellent LARP orc mask.  The blend lines around the eyes and mouth are really well done.

Touched By Cthulhu

This wonderfully horrible Cthulhu-inspired silicone prosthetic comes to us from makeup artist Constance Eme. The black velvet shroud really sets off the fish-belly paleness of the mask.

From the Sinking City

Makeup artist Kelton Ching created these denizens of "The Sinking City", the upcoming Lovecraft-inspired open world game from Frogwares.  To absolutely no one's surprise the titular city seems to have an awful lot in common with Innsmouth.  You can find more information about the game over here.

Ghoul of My Dreams

Ivan Naumenko of Masks Mastery reveals his ghoulification in preparation for Sunday's reveal of "Fallout 76" at E3.  He nails the peeling skin and exposed nasal cavity of the FO4 incarnation.

This is so...wrong.  Artist Taylor Haze Keller brings us this creeptastic makeup effect, crafted from scar wax and acrylic teeth.

This amazingly detailed recreation of a Grave Hag from the "Witcher 3" video game comes to us from makeup artist Francesco Sanseverino.  Can you imagine running into this monstrosity on a dark street?

Making an Abominable Snowman

Glam and Gore has posted a fun little tutorial on creating an Abominable Snowman/Yeti.  What's notable about the project is how simple cotton and liquid latex is used to build up a surprisingly effective facial prosthetic.

Sick and Twisted FX brings us this Cthulhu mask cast in silicone.  This would be great for cultists in a LARP.

This outstanding Deep One hybrid mask comes to us from professional makeup effects artist Anthony Kosar.  The finish work, including those incredible eyes, just knocks it out of the park.

Intestinal Fortitude

Silicone has become the go-to casting material for effects work because of it's wonderful translucence.  These creepily realistic intestines come to us from Eternal Sleep, who created them by hand without using any molds. 

Behold the New Flesh

Mark Clancy is a professional makeup artist responsible for some stunning effects.  His Instagram account is filled with dozens of examples. It's beautiful work, but extremely disturbing if you're at all squeamish about realistic gore makeup.

Wounded

Marc Clancy brings us this surprising technique for creating wounds using yarn and latex.  I've seen yarn used on gaffs to produce veins and arteries, but I never thought of using it on skin.  The one caveat I would share is to avoid doing this on any location with body hair.

TIP: Here's an easy way to make veins using red cotton or wool. This technique has been around for many years but I've never seen anyone use it directly on skin. Pull some red wool apart so you see the individual fibres. Stick them down to your skin with prosaide or latex. Use a needle to adjust the shape while the glue is still wet. I made a quick infected zombie bite using this technique but you could use it anywhere.

The Rot

Makeup effects artist Steve Harris brings us this detailed tutorial for a gruesome infected flesh effect.   Everything you need (glycerin, gelatin, makeup) is available at your local mega-mart.

Behold the New Flesh

Rain Blanken brings us a recipe for creating fake flesh.  Combine it with the fake blood recipe on the same page and you're all set to crank out buckets o' gore.

Professional makeup artist Joel Harlow brings us this denizen of Innsmouth.

Infestation

Klaire Delys brings us a handy tutorial on creating a maggot infestation makeup.  For some reason I find it inordinately amusing when YouTube makeup girls turn to horror effects.  The contrast between their chipper, upbeat personalities and the gruesome details of the makeup always makes me smile.

Quick and Dirty Wound Makeup

Cassie7 at the Halloween Forum brings us a tutorial on creating wounds using liquid latex, oatmeal, and craft paint.   Beyond the fact that it uses easily available off-the-shelf materials it's also fast.  With a blow dryer to speed drying something like this can be completed in just minutes.   It's also a great base technique that can be customized depending on your needs.  Change the color scheme from black/red to green/yellow and you have icky pustules.  Then add some maggots to really take it over the top.

Oh, and none of this applies if your subject has latex sensitivity.  In that case they'll go into anaphylactic shock, swell up like a balloon, and die.  A cool effect, to be sure, but you can only really do it once.  So make it count!

They Bite

Casey Rosa brings us this great tutorial on creating an impressive set of zombie teeth from a soda bottle and some fake nails.  I never would have thought of re-purposing acrylic nails as teeth, but it's a brilliant idea.
