The Masque of Clavicus Vile

Artist Daniel O'Keefe brings us the Masque of Clavicus Vile from Skyrim. The metallic finish is produced by aluminum powder added to the casting resin.

I never would have guessed adding metal powder to a resin cast would give such a neat finish. I would have expected it to clump terribly.

I've had lots of success using graphite for my finishes (The mess is absolutely monstrous though.)But this gives me some new ideas. Adding a faint coat of jeweler's rouge could probably make a great copper finish.

It’s a nice piece of work. It puts me to mind of the silver mask of King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, during the Crusades. He was eaten up with leprosy and the mask covered his mutilated face A Ridley Scott movie, The Kingdom of Heaven, 2005 depicts a silver mask wearing Baldwin IV as well. He is also depicted thusly by Umberto Eco in his book Baudolino. The other image I take from this mask is the 2008 movie Prince Caspian – not a great movie, but beautiful props and seamless CGI. The Spanishesque armor and masks are actually what first came to mind when I saw this prop mask.
