Leather Journal Tutorial
Katie Startzman has an easy to follow tutorial for creating a small leather journal. It's a project that anyone can handle, and the result would make a great LARP spellbook or chronicle.
This is a great tutorial because the difficulty level is within reach of anybody. I thought using a sewing machine to stitch the paper was particularly ingenious. The ability to customize the cover and pages really makes this a good project and would lend itself to Mythos RPGs and props.
If that’s more than you want to tackle try sites like eBay & etc and just buy one http://www.militaryuniformsupply.com/hand-made-leather-pocket-journal-chocolate http://matiji.com/p/75131/Pocket-Journal-Handmade-Art-Diary-Travel-Notebook-CWR-6X4.5-Bison-Brown-Leather-in-Books-Accessories-Blank-Diaries-Journals-eBay
Civil War era type wallets are good for mid century costuming and prop work. You can tuck in a small note book into the pocket as well. There’s a lot of these kinds of period wallets around http://winchestersutler.com/HavItems.htm
Of course you need a period pencil for your notebook, regardless of era http://www.vintagepens.com/catill_pencils.shtml
