Admittedly it's only Euclidean geometry instead of the feared non-Euclidean kind the stories mention, but it still tugs on the old association between geometry and magic.
Genuine Arabian magical tradition (magical squares etc.), not just HPL's fictional "Mad Arab", draws on that.
And then think of the "Outer Limits" title narration: "We control the vertical; we control the horizontal...."

I like this one. I'm definitely partial to the more rough hewn style of Cthulu idols. Leaves a lot to the imagination.
