Tools of the Trade

The Viking Mythos project continues to putter along.

On the left we have a troll tooth used as a protective charm.  To the right a selection of wooden needles used for putting down Druagr, Viking undead.  I'll add some iron nails to the set when I find some that have the right length and don't look machine made.

I suspect a Norse cultist would have few qualms about trafficking with the undead, but it's always wise to have a bit of leverage.  "Do not call up any that you can not put down," as Lovecraft points out in "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward".  The sagas have various portrayals of reanimated corpses, but driving needles into their feet appears repeatedly as a means of stilling their spirits, or at least preventing them from walking.

Well 'Versed

Mike J. was kind enough to share some of his own Firefly/Serenity documents in the comments to Thursday's post.  He's produced alternate currency, bureaucratic paperwork, tax stamps, and some excellent industrial signage.  The rest of his blog is pretty cool as well.  It focuses on more obscure prop items, including some well done Mythos items.

Paperwork from the 'Verse

"Firefly" is long gone, but it's fans continue to keep the show alive.  Yellowjacket brings us an impressive collection of paper props from the 'Verse, including ship's papers, transit labels, industrial signage, and currency.  His discussion thread includes links to everything in high-resolution PDF format.

Trophy Hunting

Artist Krista Montgomery brings us the mounted head of a juvenile mud worm.  The paint job on the beastie's skin is fantastic.

Red Alien

"Red Alien"  was a multi-media art installation by Ommo Will* on display in Lennestadt, Germany earlier this year.   The project told the story of an alien specimen recovered in the GDR, and eventually seized by the Soviets, sometime during the 50s.  A huge number of props and faux documents were used to build the narrative, everything from ancient clay idols to the titular alien carcass.  The Google translated version is over here.

*I'm relying on my very limited knowledge of German and Google Translate for that attribution.  My apologies for any errors brought on by my ignorance.

Gaulder's Amulet

Atmosfur brings us this recreation of Gaulder's Amulet from "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim".
