This nicely done Cthulhu idol comes to us from sculptor Jake Johnson. The texture work really stands out. The detailed wrinkling of the facial area provides an interesting contrast to the smoothness along the back of the head. And the eyes! That's an insanely great paint job.

That’s a superb reimagining of the Mythos. I agree that the variations of texture on this figure is quite good. I wonder how a selective area glaze of gloss, matte, and flat in various locations would accentuate the textures. This was quite well designed and well executed. I visit Propnomicon’s site day after day because of the tremendous variation of content. This sculpt is much like a Greek herm form and I have commented before: http://propnomicon.blogspot.com/2010/11/cthulhu-artifact.html
Yeah, the eyes. Goats, toads, and octopuses have horizontal rectangular pupil eyes, which give a good peripheral field of vision. But take into account that felines and some serpents also have rectangular pupils in their eyes, they just happen to be vertical rather than horizontal. So this type of eye is not so rare, it’s just specialized.
With all those eyes, which have those wide seeing peripheral horizontal pupils would mean he can see all of us scurrying around: “He knows when you are sleeping, he knows when you’re awake ...” just be sure you are eaten first.
