He Dreams

Mark Cordory brings us this outstanding Cthulhu mask. I absolutely love this sculpt. It captures all the features of Lovecraft's sketch, including the multiple eyes that many artists ignore, without being the standard "man with an octopus on his head" depiction. The anatomy is thoroughly alien, but totally believable.

Ah I love this so much! The texturing on the tentacles are great. More earthworm like than octopus, which is a refreshing change.

That mask is a nice reimagining of a Lovecraftian figure. I can’t wait to see the rest of the costume. What a great piece of work.

It reminds me of a creature from a graphic novel and movie called Nausicaa of the valley of Wind by Hayao Miyazaki, perfect collection I graphic novel(s). There is also an anime movie of the same name from 1984. It takes place in the very far future with the world in decay and toxic jungles that are slowly eating up the planet. One creature, the ohmu looks very much like this and they are large as a hill but move quickly. The alien imagery is quite refreshing and when I saw the movie, I instantly saw a Lovecraft association. Although generally I don’t go in for anime, a younger fan got me interested in the series. Sometimes new blood helps the old blood to circulate. Anyway, go to google images and type in nausicaa ohmu to find images.

Damn, that is gorgeous. I really like how the tentacles are less octopus-y, and more like earthworms. It adds to the alien feel of Ol'Tulu.

I've never been able to find a decent online collection of Lovecraft's sketches, I've never seen the sketch of Cthulhu he did. Does anyone know of a site where I could find them?
