Cthulhu Fhtagn! Poppe Edition

I'm familiar with Richard Allen Poppe's other Mythos sculptures, but I wasn't aware he'd done a Cthulhu idol.

That Cthulhu idol is sublime. I also like his De Vermis Mysteriis...

Too bad he ripped off so many people over the years. That's why he's no longer selling his items. His PayPal and Ebay account have been suspended. I've been waiting for over 3 years now. Lost over 300 Dollars on this a$$hole !

The comment above is correct. I admired several of his items, and intended to acquire many of them. My first order went horribly, and after many months of stories and excuses I finally received the books I had ordered that looked as though they had been tossed together with little attention paid to either detail of the pieces or packaging for shipment. Books were damaged, and when looking through the printed material (which an email complaint was sent to me regarding the cost of printer ink) pages were out of order and some were upside down. Even if he gets his stuff sorted out I will not buy directly from him again.

Scam Fartist indeed !!!!
Some of this art should be in my hands for years!!! Paid 400 USD for some statues sold on his website back in 2008. R.A.Poppe would send them to me within 6 weeks - Contacted him after 8 weeks because I was still waiting - He said he needed another 80 USD for shipping & handling although I'm sure we agreed all costs were included in the price. I told him to cancel the order and refund me my money. Of course I never heard from him again and it was too late for a Paypal dispute. Shame on you R.A.Poppe !! Burn in Hell !

The bastard !
Now I understand why I never received my Cthulhu statue !
He always said it was sent but obviously it was not !
I could live with the idea my item was lost in the mail as he claimed but this is a different matter now !
Anyone knows how to contact the scumbag ?
His website is down and he's not selling on Ebay anymore.
I should send my money to Nigerian internet-thiefs next time !

I have this statue, and I had a bad experience too. I settled for this one when I couldn't win any bids for Stephen Hickman's Cthulhu statue, and the listing described a high quality, solid resin product with hand-crafted jeweled eyes, so I didn't mind paying what I later realized to be waaayy too much. It took forever to arrive, and when, after much pestering, it finally came, it was not solid, it was hollow. It was also shoddily and quickly made with several of the bumps on the statue having formed bubbles and popped because of the lack of resin used and lack of setting time allowed to the statue itself while in the mold. It was painted hastily in a way that didn't cover all the nooks and crannies (I went back and painted those spots myself), and the paint wasn't even dry. The newspapers it was packed in had stuck to the paint and messed parts of it up. And to top it all off, the eyes were crappy, not completely dry balls of resin with fingerprints still in them. I was absolutely mortified, because as a young teen, I'd been saving my Christmas and birthday money for that statue for two years. I complained, and he offered to make another, but I had lost all faith in him at this point and didn't believe he could or would actually create a better product than the one he had sent me. I said that I would settle for the one I already had, as I'd already spent time repairing some of the issues on the statue, but I wanted a partial refund because he had lied about the product's quality. Never heard from him again.

I was livid at first and for a very long time after, but people always admire the statue (I think partially because of my repairs). I've actually grown fond of it over the 9 or so years it's been with me, and I don't regret buying it like I used to, but it was still a very shitty thing for Poppe to have done.

I bought a tome from him years ago and never received it. He kept saying it was nearly finished, giving excuses for the delays, and then stopped replying entirely. It's a shame because his artwork is very good and I'd still like it, but I've lost the $300 that I gave him.
At least his website is down now, so he can't steal from anyone else.

I also own this statue. It turned out to be a total rip-off.

After advertising it on ebay with photos that gave the impression it would be cast in resin, after months and months of hounding him, he finally sent me one that had been cast in EXPANDING INSULATION FOAM!!!

Parts of it had crumbled away in the mold, but he just slathered on some paint and mailed it to me anyway, I guess just so he could say I received something for my money. I'm sure he had a good laugh about the hundreds of dollars I had paid him for this expanding foam sculpture too.

And to top it all off, people have warned me that this kind of foam is known to give off toxic gases, so I don't even dare to display it.

NEVER give your money to this scammer!
