Cthulhu Fhtagn! McKittrick Edition.

The latest from Jason McKittrick is this gold Cthulhu idol allegedly owned by one Edward Teach.  The statue is an homage to the gold fertility idol from "Raiders of the Lost Ark", but the sculpt stands on it's own merits.

If you're interested the piece is available on Ebay.

Jason continually surprises me with his use of different art styles in his props. It shows he really does his research and is quite flexible and very imaginative. I really like this chunky, almost Art Deco or cubist figure Jason has made because it’s such a departure from typical prop idols inspired by the Mythos. The surface treatment and texture really makes it looks like a gold figurine. The Raiders figure referenced is a copy of Tlazolteotl, which is a very interesting goddess of Mesoamerica.

An article on Tlazolteotl can be found here, http://www.matrifocus.com/BEL09/key.htm and an image of the original green stone figure here, http://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/ancient/enlarge/aztec-goddess.html .
