The motivation for coming up with that prop came in large part from reading Propnomicon. Even with my limited craft skills, I wanted to do something.
I think you're seriously underestimating your level of skill. It's not only a brilliant idea, but your write-up manages to provide a handy tutorial while clearly explaining the concept behind it. Being able to create something, and then showing someone else how to do it, is golden in my book.
