I've had a few emails asking if it was too late to get on board the Arkham Sanitarium project. The answer to that is "probably".
There are likely going to be some spares, but I think it's a matter of basic fairness that the people that stepped up and pledged get first dibs on everything. They're the ones that made the whole project possible by putting up their money, most of them over six weeks ago. There are a handful of people that contacted me during the fund drive to make alternative payment arrangements (for a variety of reasons) and they'll get the same consideration.
The only salve I can offer to anyone that missed out is the assurance that this won't be the last prop package. I think everyone that pledged is going to be very happy with their swag. If that's the case, then I expect I'll be able to leverage that goodwill into making another project possible.

ReplyDeleteI'm already happy enough with it that I'd pledge in for another project (I keep hoping for City of Arkham Police/County Sheriff set, with police/detective or sheriffs deputy badge myself).
jus' sayin'
County Sheriff would be Essex County -- that's real-world.
ReplyDeleteBut Arkham Police Department -- just needs a badge with the city seal at the center. There's another opportunity to use that lovely design you came up with, Oakree, not leave it in the shadows.
Here is the official website of the Essex County Sheriff's Department, one of the very few officials Essex County still has (along with its District Attorney), since most of the County's governmental functions were assumed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1999.
ReplyDeleteHere from flickr is a uniform patch, which has the Massachusetts arms at the center, rather than the Essex county seal. (And, despite the very tiny image size, you can see the same is true of the badge on the Sheriff's website.) But this is post-1999.
See Wikipedia's comments on the somewhat more limited role of County Sheriffs (vs. State Police) in local law enforcement in Massachusetts, compared to other states.
As for the State Police role, again see Wikipedia:
ReplyDeleteThe Massachusetts State Police have statewide jurisdiction, including full criminal law enforcement, traffic enforcement, investigation, and special air, marine, and tactical response. They share concurrent jurisdiction with municipal and institutional departments, and have primary jurisdiction in towns that have no local police force. ... State police also have sole authority under state law for investigating homicides, except for Boston, Worcester, and Springfield.
Now, this refers to present law; what the law said in the "Classic Era" 1920s-1930s may have been different. I'd hate to assume the Arkham City Police couldn't be stuck puzzling over mysterious deaths, left to handle them on their own....
I'm thinking a vintage passport, travel documents, luggage stickers, etc... that would be another prop package that I'd buy into.
ReplyDeleteJim: It's been done! "vintage passport, travel documents" are already provided as PDFs by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society, including: 1923 US passport;1937 US passport; 1920s British passport; international visas; train ticket; steamship ticket; bus ticket; airplane ticket; Zeppelin ticket; Arkham streetcar transfers; luggage tags; and assorted other IDs and paperwork of the period.
ReplyDeleteSome 80 props. $20 on a CD by themselves; or $35 with a slew of beautiful fonts for making period-looking documents. Incredible deal.
Jim: Googling (vintage | retro) "luggage (stickers | labels)" turns up 20K webpages, like this one selling themed sets of printed reproductions, or this one offering two free PDF pages to print on label stock yourself. Go look.
ReplyDeleteJim: Do please also note the Hotel Miskatonic (Arkham) and Gilman House (Innsmouth) luggage sticker images here on Propnomicon....
ReplyDeleteI have the set from the HP Lovecraft Historical Society, and its more than worth the money. Its sheer genius.
