Antler Pendant

Artist Don Simpson returns with this milky agate and antler pendant.  He has a real gift for taking primitive materials and turning them into intriguing pieces.  It's like seeing an artifact from a culture that hasn't been documented.  You know the symbols and iconography mean something, but you don't have any context for figuring out what that is.

  1. The back of the pendant with the labyrinthine swirl on the back is the part I really like. The edges of the antler base remind me of coral branches. The whole thing has a Paleolithic feeling indeed. Propnomicon is right as in this case, less is more because Simpson doesn’t attempt to wedge the artifact into a milieu or era, it’s extra tantalizing.

Just Google Paleolithic spirals for a lot of interesting links.
