Consider that besides looking like a “tree” in our human eyes, it may also look like a crystalline growth instead--maybe like an asymmetric crystal-like part of a snowflake, but in this case, a non-fractile one. After all it’s “not of this world”. Also perhaps it represents a form of life like a coral branch, which would be an animal, not a plant. When dealing with utterly alien ideas, thinking out of the box (dimension) might be your best bet.
