Did you know you can have an allergic reaction to epoxy putty? Neither did I, until about an hour ago. I'm not sure if I'm totally sensitized, but I have a nasty rash all over my hands.
The really galling thing is that I'm actually getting halfway good. Well, maybe not "good", but I was definitely within striking distance of the "not totally awful" level of ability.
The secret is to not eat so much at a sitting. Seriously, you might be having a reaction to one of the components. Some people have problems with the fumes.

Can you wear protective gloves and still have enough dexterity?

ReplyDeleteI've been using it on and off for years and this is the first time I've had a reaction.

I barely have enough dexterity now. Heh. If it turns out I am sensitized I'm going to try wearing nitrile gloves and only touching the epoxy with tools.
I recommend Nitrile powder-free gloves. They are fairly tight and reaction free to the best of my knowledge.
ReplyDeletePerhaps try a different brand? There's also apoxy putty, and a type called Magic Sculp. I'm wondering if maybe there was just a chemical in that batch of clay that you reacted to.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion would be to try a different brand of putty. Failing that, you're stuck with nitrile gloves.
