The Rapture of Cthulhu

Another intriguing piece from artist Joe Broers. This time he brings us "The Rapture of Cthulhu".

"A small copy of unknown origins of a life sized statue that stood in a Russian aristocrat’s private sculpture garden on his estate south of Minsk until at least 1918, when it was destroyed by either the occupying Germans, or the Bolsheviks who followed."

  1. I really like the idea of this. I can visualize a couple houses in my area, where a full size something like this would just fit.

    Amazing

  4. Something different and unique in the Lovecraft sculpture region. I think this is wonderful.

  5. That’s a magnificent piece of sculpture it has a sort of 1830s mourning look to the piece. I hope to see a life-sized monument at some time, preferably in the garden of my house. Although it bears no resemblance stylistically, I immediately thought of the more bizarre works of Emmanuel Frémiet, the Victorian bronze sculptor. Specifically, his Orang Utang Strangling a Borneo Savage and to a lesser extent, Gorilla Abducting a Woman and Mendiant Begging Bear. I think the subtle sensuality of your work made that aetheric connection somehow.

  6. CoastConFan: I was visualizing it, full size, at the start of a long winding driveway up to an older house with a fountain that the driveway wraps around, and a yard full of trees that haven't been trimmed in a decade....

....but I like the garden idea too!

Hrm. How to build a full size thing like this. *thinking cap on*

  7. Thanks, all! CoastConFan, Emmanuel Frémiet was unknown to me until now, and it was a pleasure having a look at his work. Also, feel free to have a lifesize copy made for your garden, and be sure to post some pics.
