Tomes Of Mystery
Thanks to Raven, as always, for bringing The Biblionihilistica to my attention. Browse around and you'll find some wonderful examples of tomecraft, like this copy of the Codicil Coetus.
For those who haven't (or won't) read the site, that's a starstone chained to the spine of the book, otherwise it would "get up to mischief".
On the Discworld, you know Unseen University would have this chained to the shelves, there would be banana peels nearby, and the echo of "Oook" to remind you it was being Watched.
I'd love to see someone do a prop reproduction of the Octavo from "The Light Fantastic". Given the rabid nature of Discworld fans I'm rather surprised at the dearth of props.
Hmmm... though it's possible that first picture may also be *of* the movie prop, since the movie prop was auctioned off at the 2008 Discworld convention in Australia....
... and brought in more than £1000 for Alzheimer's research....
Raven is quite correct about the artefact chained to the spine of the volume, but knowing a little more about The Coetus than the average fellow, readers may be interested to learn that in this fabrication it is carved from horn and is termed a Star Charm, or Astrum Fascinum.

Well, here, for example.
ReplyDeleteYou did see the movie, right? (The movie prop exterior, and an interior.)

beautiful...this inspires me to try to create something like this for my little Halloween haunted house!

ReplyDeleteMany thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteI purchased it for use in The Cthulhu Key film. I will send you some more up close photos when it arrives.
