This photogenic company of Averland state troops comes to us from Russian artist Wastort.  They took the field during this year's "Forest of Gloom" Warhammer LARP.

The Chained Necronomicon

Mille Cuirs returns to our pages with this very nice take on the infamous Necronomicon. 

Vesperian Font

Cherry Chain brings us the Vesperian font, based on the characters used in the "Tales of Vesperia" computer RPG.  As with most of the fonts featured here it's ideal for being repurposed for paper props. Carved Stone Cthulhu

This work in progress shot of Cthulhu being carved from stone comes to us from Italian artist Mario Milia.  I believe he's working from a pumice blank.

Aztec LARP Gear

This set of Aztec war gear from Sander Propworx is notable not only for it's novelty, but for the amazing detail of the foam weapons and shield.  On the left is a traditional tepoztopilli, an obsidian edged lance. The massive blade on the right is a macuahuitl. If you're curious about how they're used Wikipedia has a great article on the odd quirks of Aztec warfare.

Atelier Fantastique returns to our pages with this wonderfully well crafted set of Viking Hjalmer armor.

Viking Trail Food

We've featured a number of fantasy inspired trail meals that offered up interesting takes on the dining habits of DnD adventurers. It's a subject I find fascinating, since primitive camping and bushcraft is one of my other hobbies. This video from Marobud is a nice look at preparing a conjectural meal on the trail during the Viking era.  Period supplies probably weren't so fresh most of the time, but as the old saying goes, "Hunger is the best sauce."

The Necronomicon, van der Horst Edition.

Bernhard van der Horst brings us his take on the infamous Necronomicon.  His gallery features multiple views of the book, which appears as a prop in an upcoming game. 

Long Live the King

This intriguing take on The King in Yellow comes to us from the Fell and Fair cosplay group.  They  normally specialize in recreating Tolkien's Middle Earth, primarily the literary version.  You'll find some glorious costume shots in their Instagram feed.

Hylek Optimized Projectile Experiment

This recreation of the Hylek Optimized Projectile Experiment, or HOPE, from Guild Wars 2 comes to us from Finnish artist Kireanikin. It's a beautifully crafted piece that features "plasma pipes" lit by animated LEDs.

Talisman Coins

These primitive talisman coins come to us from Ravn Cotino.  They were sculpted by Rosie Somerscales Horner and cast in resin weighted with iron powder.

Grimoire of the Third Eye

The talented Mille Cuirs returns to our pages with the Grimoire of the Third Eye. 

Wolfbrother Gear Set

This beautiful gear set comes to us from "The Beast Man".   It features a hand tooled and painted heavy leather belt with matching leather pouches, vambraces, and a scabbard for a beaked axe.

Mehrune's Razor

Sean Paul Garret brings us this work in progress shot of his recreation of Mehrune's Razor from "Oblivion".  He's primed and started sanding down the master to get rid of the characteristic ridging from 3D printing.

The Art of Mad Science

Art student Taylor Atkinson created this gruesome art installation for an upcoming show.  It's a great display featuring a multitude of well done props.  That includes a selection of Cronenberg inspired specimens, ephemera, and lab accoutrements. 

Stone of the Dark Fae

The talented Dayne Hodson returns to our pages with this fragment of a spell tome from the Dark Fae.  To no ones surprise, it's potentially lethal.

Scattered throughout the forests of the United kingdom, Ireland and Scotland are relics known only as “Dark Faerie Spell Tome Fragments” These relics contain a detailed description of a particular Dark Faeries most favoured spells and incantations.

As many Dark Faeries pride themselves on the complexity of their spells “so complex that one wrong word uttered during a casting would reduce the caster to ash” that they would leave them in places where they would eventually fall into the hands of human. Watching with amusement they would then observe as the person fumbles with the incantations that eventually lead to their demise.

Tooled Stone Cthulhu Idol

This faux stone Cthulhu idol comes to us from Hydra Props.  I really love the surface finish.  It does a great job of duplicating the look of pecked and grooved stone.

Customized Cthulhu

The Ancient One Cthulhu idol is a great piece, but artist Richard "Darth" Vargas wanted something closer to Lovecraft's original sketch.  So he took matters into his own hands:

I disliked the human-like frontal eyes of the original sculpt and using H.P. Lovecraft original sketch of the statue I re-sculpted the forehead, eyes (six. 3 to each side of the bulbous head)and added 3 more palps to the front. It. Now it looks a lot more like the original concept and more... alien in his looks.

Rust Never Sleeps

Nuclear Snail Studios returns to our pages with a detailed tutorial on creating a realistic rust patina.  Not surprisingly, his emphasis is on post-apocalyptic props and costumes, but the technique is equally useful for items from any time period.  One piece of advice I would add is to take the printed warnings on the solutions involved seriously.

Pirated T-Shirts

My thanks to everyone who gave me a heads up about this advertising campaign on Facebook.  "Cool Tee USA" is indeed ripping off my Miskatonic Antarctic expedition logo.  The ad buy seems to have popped up last Monday as a "Limited Time" offer, but since then the clock has been regularly resetting as the owners shift the offer through hoodies, posters, etc.

As of yet I haven't heard back from the company, but I'm sure I'll be hearing a variation of the "we got it from some guy" story.  If you'd like to purchase a legitimate t-shirt or hoodie you can get them through the Propnomicon store on Zazzle.

This nicely done leather and antler mask comes to us from Dutch artist Lynfir Koopmans.

The Hand of Y'golonac

Swedish artist Karbunkl is the creator of the Sign of the Children of Y'Golonac.  The Headless God is one of the more disturbing post-Lovecraft figures in the Mythos.  Ramsey Campbell's creation had more than a little influence on the Chaos gods of the Warhammer universe.

It Floats

The cheerful elves of the Wunderkammer Workshop bring us this nicely done two-headed fetus.  The only critique I would offer is that the specimen should be fully immersed, but I know how difficult it is to a get a gaff neutrally bouyant.

The Helm of Hjalmar

L'Atelier Fantastique returns to our pages with this leather Hjalmar helmet. I can only imagine how many hours went into crafting something like this.
